Believe me,it’s not easy to wake up in the morning leaving the comforts of your bed just to hit the gym or jog on the streets all in the name of exercise. So I understand how it feels when someone says they can’t keep up with a workout routine. To be honest, I can’t live without exercise. I have made it part of my daily routine that’s because I can cope with it. But have you noticed that there are some fellas that hit the gym every day but you won’t see any decrease in their body size? Yeah, it is possible and there are reasons for that also which will be discussed in another blog post. I am not here to argue about the importance of exercise but to mention the things you can do to loose weight without exercise. This is not a brief oasis for people who can’t cope with a workout routine, but it’s a lifestyle as well.
Cut down your sugar intake.
Raise your hands if you know that 1 cube of sugar=9cal will be enough for your tea…. I don’t think it will. Sugar makes you fat because high concentration of blood sugar accelerates the storage of food as fat and not energy. Stay away from soda drinks and fruit juices as well. They don’t just increase your chances of obesity but to your health. Opt for sugar-free beverages like green tea.
Don’t stress yourself.
When the body is over stressed, it releases stress hormones known as cortisol. Cortisol makes the body resist insulin which in turn raises blood sugar and then increases fat storage. Stress has a lot to do with your mentality, psychology rather than biology. Even though as a human being you will always encounter stress in your life which is normal. But when it starts to interfere with your sleeping and eating then it’s not a good one. Ways you can deal with such is by meditation, yoga and breathing exercise, it’s not difficult — it works wonders.
Take a walk.
It’s not bad to own a car, but you can always take a 300 metres walk to the store to get some things and not a drive. Don’t invite laziness into your life because it always comes along with his friend “weight gain”. Take a walk around your neighborhood, if you feel bored take someone along with you so that you can chat.
Get Enough sleep.
When you don’t get enough sleep a lot of things happen — bad things happen to your body apart from weight gain. Talking about weight gain, when you remain awake you feel the urge to eat. Instead of going for fruits you find yourself craving for carbs and sugary foods. Avoid those things that stop you from sleeping. Things like; stress, drinking water before going to bed so that you don’t find yourself taking trips to the bathroom, eating right before bedtime so that you don’t have stomach upset, watching movies, and switch off the lights. Make sure you get 7-9 hours of quality sleep.
Drink enough water.
Water helps regulate metabolism and digestion. When the body is dehydrated it increases appetite which is why you should give it water and not food if you are on a weight loss or fitness journey.
Reduce your alcohol intake.
Alcohol is a favorite drink to pass time for humans socially and culturally. It has never been a good thing to drink alcohol in excess for many reasons, especially your health. Alcohol can trigger hunger signals in the brain leading to high urge to eat more food. It can also affect your sleep. I was like that before,I take alcohol to help me sleep because I find it hard to sleep thinking it would help me sleep but it’s a FAT LIE!!! I always wake up 2 hours after sleeping.
Eat small portions of food.
What size of plate, spoon or fork do you use to eat? Use a small plate and a small spoon to eat. If you are on a weight loss journey then divide the normal quantity of food you eat before into 3, take one part to eat and complete the other part of your plate with veggies like salad. Vegetables have a way to make you feel full because of the high water content in them. You hit 2 birds with one stone — by consuming less calories and you feel full. Make sure you avoid salad dressings so that it doesn’t shoot up your calorie count.
Don’t starve yourself.
It’s funny to think that starving yourself will help you lose weight. What happens when you finally want to eat? You find yourself on a an eating spree because you’re so hungry. Guess what? You are right back at where you started. Starving and fasting are two different things.
Cut down your calorie intake.
There are lots of food with high calorie count but won’t make you full e.g a pack If medium sized noodles is 624 calories, some biscuits. There are some with low calorie but will make you full e.g veggies, proteins.
When you take a morsel of food chew it slowly, like grind every piece of food before you swallow. The reason for this is because, when you take long to eat, it sends signals to the brain that you are full and it’s time to stop eating. With this you will find out that you didn’t even finish the food on your plate, yet you are full.
Sometimes it’s not all about exercise when it comes to weight loss but, your diet. If you don’t work on your diet and you workout, you will not get your desired body weight. But you can always lose weight if you work on your diet even if you don’t exercise. Hope this was insightful. Lemme know your thoughts in the comments.
